Bookings For Disney's "Dream" Cruise Ship Opens

Disney Cruise Line has began accepting bookings for cruises on the Dream cruise ship, scheduled to start operations early 2011.

Scheduled to debut in early 2011, the Dream will be about 50 percent larger than its two predecessors, Magic and Wonder, holding up to 4,000 passengers. It will make three-, four- and five-night trips to the Bahamas and Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay, from its home base in Port Canaveral, Fla. Bookings opened last month aboard the vessel, which marks Disney’s first new ship in a decade.

Hum... maybe it's time for a cruise!

Mickey's Very Merry and Plentiful Discounts

Here's the scoop - if you are a passholder at WDW, for every purchase, ASK if there is a passholder discount. For merchandise purchase, it appears that passholder gets 10% at almost every merchandise store on WDW. But you have to ask for it. For food, it is a hit-and-miss, even for counter service. I'm sure someone somewhere has a more detailed and accurate list of where a passholder can get a discount. I don't have that list, and neither does Disney and the WDW Passholder website.

Now, this is where it gets annoying. In those same stores, you also get 10% off on your Disney Visa if your purchase is more than $50. Again, you have to request for it. But here's where it gets confusing. If you also a passholder, SOMETIME YOU CAN GET BOTH DISCOUNTS ON THE SAME PURCHASE, AND SOME TIME YOU CAN'T. I was a the Pin Central store when my purchase had both discounts, while my friend who bought her pins at another cash register didn't get both even when she asked for it. This seems to be the constant theme throughout our stay, where the rule on whether both can be used on the same purchase were not applied evenly, even in the SAME store but by different cast members.

Another case in point is this. At various food counter service restaurants, you get a special promotion on the receipt where you can get 20% off at the big merchandise stores at each of the park. That's quite considerable (the promotion on my receipts ends Dec. 15). We did our shopping using one of such promotions at Island Merchantile at DAK. I asked if I can use the Disney Visa discount on top of the 20% discount. The cast member said no and pointed to the written part of the receipt that it cannot be used with any other discounts. Fine, I'll take that, because 20% off was nothing to sneeze at.

Well, you guessed it. At another register, another friend asked for the same thing when using her 20% off, and the cast member said to the effect "Well, let's see if it will go through if I punch in the discount code" (the discount code is 71 for the Disney Visa 10% off). Guess what, it went through! So she got not only the 20% off, but also another 10% on top of that!

Look, I love the fact that WDW has now tried to give passholder the same valued treatment that they give Disneyland passholders. Giving 10% discounts isn't much, and I have no idea if it will last, but at least it is something. However, this uneven policy on whether or not the Disney Visa can be used together with the passholder (or other) discounts, sometime even in the same store, is just driving me nuts! When you hear that another guest got more than what you get, you still feel cheated. You are left with the frustration that, even though it is only a few bucks, you should have gotten what you are entitled to, especially when you asked for it. I've mentioned before in one of my earlier complaints about services at WDW that one of the BEST way to annoy your customers is to not get your story straight. Nothing is more annoying than to have an uneven policy in which different parts of your company apply things differently on the very same thing.

For the record, I never, even once, went back to the stores that I got shortchanged on to demand for the extra discount. I didn't want the annoyance to ruin my vacation.

MJJP

Sitting down at AK waiting for the start of Mickey's Jingle Jungle parade. Today is probably the best weather we had since the day we arrived. Still a bit humid.

A Day At Epcot

Disney Parks has released a second tilt-shift video, and this time, it is on Epcot.

This of course, follows the wildly imaginative and amazing A Day at the Magic Kingdom video.

I love, love, love this series and look forward to the others that I'm sure are coming.

Donald's Great Adventure - The Polynesian

I spent an afternoon at the Polynesian. I love this resort as well. With all the vegetation and the water, it makes me feel quite at home. I had to resist my natural instinct to jump into the water and wallow.

We had lunch at Kona Cafe. Here we are waiting for the breakfast crowd to leave and the lunch service to start.

ZapperZ wanted me to order off the menu. But how can I read the menu when it is upside down? It was already a feat for a duck like me to be able to read!

I decided to go straight for dessert. The Kona Cone is awesome. All I remember is that when they brought it over, I went "Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!" Then everything went blank.

After I recovered from that dessert, I went around the lobby and chatted with this Tiki God about the weather and if he could do something about it. We had a lovely conversation, but dude, you need a breath mint!

Having dinner at Cosmic Rays and waiting for MVMCP to start.

Heading towards MK for our 2nd MVMCP. This one will have better weather that last Friday.

Animation

Waiting to draw at the disney animation.

Donald's Great Adventure - World of Disney Doorbuster

ZapperZ woke me up at 4 am, 4 am, in the morning! He wanted to know if I would like to go shopping with him at the World of Disney store in Downtown Disney for their annual holiday Doorbuster sale for passholders. Are you out of your freaking mind? 4 am in the morning just to go shopping? It was too early and too cold for man or fowl! I told him no way. I'm staying in bed!

Donald's Great Adventure - Animal Kingdom Lodge

I visited the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Of course, as an "animal" myself, this is my most favorite resort. Some of my distant cousins live around here, or at least, they fly to this resort and theme park very often.

I love the lobby of this building, the best lobby that I know of. At this time of the year, they had it well-decorated.

Have you found the hidden Mickey yet in the lobby? I found one on one of the shields in the chandelier.

I then had dinner at Boma. I love, love, love this place!

Yum! Of course, I had to have the dessert!

I was a stuffed duck by the end of the evening.

Illuminations

Waiting for the start of Illuminations. Our favorite spot is being reserved for the Candlelight dinner package attendees.

Why I don't have kids.

This is why I don't have kids. The poor cast member has a lot of cleaning to do not only for the table but also the floor.

Pandemonium

The doorbuster is nuts! Huge, huge crowd. But not many items on sale as last year, so that's disappointing. I'm not buying as much.

Doorbusters

We got our wristbands and having breakfast at McDonnalds. Doors open at 6:30 am.

World of Disney Passholder Doorbuster

I'm now up at 4:00 am getting ready to go to the World of Disney special Passholder "Doorbuster" sale that will start at 6:30 am. {Yawn} This should be a madhouse just like last year when they held it for the very first time. Hopefully, they learned from that one and this time, it won't be so chaotic.

There should be sales for 50%, and on top of that, passholder and Disney visa discounts. My poor credit card!

Rain rain

Magic Kingdom is rainy, wet and cold. It's perfect! :)

MVMCP tonight is going to be messy.

Donald's Great Adventure - The Boardwalk and DVC Merry Member Mixer

Hello Fans!

Donald Duck here back to report on more fun and exciting things we did yesterday. I'm having a wonderful time being home, and meeting so many happy people, who became happier when they get to see me.

I started the day at the Boardwalk resort, just to chill out. I love the Boardwalk, since it is closed by the water where I can swim and be myself. Well, I can't do that anymore since my feathers are always well-groomed. They don't want me to ruin that since I may be asked to have a picture taken with my fans at any time, and I have to always look perfect! Ah, it's such a tough life....

So here I am having a relaxing time on the Boardwalk itself.

A nice drink sitting by the water - what could be more relaxing than that?

I read the menu at Kat Cora's new restaurant. It looks yummy .... the food I mean, not the menu itself!

I saw my nephews in a store window being naughty again. I have to talk with Dumbella about these kids one of these days.

I then went into the lobby of The Boardwalk. Wonderful holiday decorations they have in there, including this gingerbread house that had my gorgeous love, Daisy. What is Stitch doing in there? He can't cook! What I don't understand is that they have a duck stuck in the chimney. Who could that be?

I went around to a few more places in the lobby.

I then made my way to the DVC Merry Member Mixer where I'm one of the VIP guests (of course!).

They always give out lots of treats at this event, and this one is no exception. Yum, rice crispies!

I met one of my biggest fan at the event. It is none other than the First Lady of DVC, it is Ms. Deevy Cee herself!

I spent the next 20 minutes trying to get remove lipstick marks all over my feathers. My Daisy would not understand if she sees me with lipstick marks.

It was a fun day.
