"Up" Win Palm Dog Award

It has not been released in the US, yet "Up" has already garnered its first award - well, sorta since it really isn't an "official" award of any kind. It seems that there is an unofficial competition at Cannes for the best canine in the movies shown at Cannes. And the the "...dog called Dug and a pack of wild but wonderful hounds..." from "Up" garnered the "Palm Dog" award (I think I got more of a chuckle out of that name than anything else, since it resembles the Best Picture Palm d'Or" award).

"Up was a favourite from the word go as it featured loveable Dug and a pack of wild but wonderful hounds with comically malfunctioning human voice collars," said journalist Toby Rose.

The 3D dogs beat off stiff competion from a black poodle sitting at the table with Nazis in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, said Rose.

"Up" opens a week from today here in the US.
