I can't say that I'm surprised by this. The Broadway performance of Tarzan will be closing July 8 after barely a year of performance. As far as I can remember, it was the only Disney Broadway musical to open with poor reviews. Even Aida had way stronger reception than Tarzan, and I consider Aida as the least successful of the slew of Disney's Broadway musicals, till now.
It's too bad that they're closing the show now after deciding to close down Beauty and the Beast to make way for The Little Mermaid. Beauty still had legs, and it could have gone on for a few more successful years, certainly doing better than Tarzan would have. No word yet on what will replace Tarzan, or even if it will be a Disney production.
