Looks like Disney intends to make "better" use of the Treehouse Villas area.
Having stayed at both Saratoga Springs, and Old Key West, and have taken the the boat ride to Downtown Disney, I've seen the Treehouse Villas a few times. During our last trip, we were told that(and I won't name by who) eventually, the land will be occupied by the expanding Saratoga Springs resort. This would make SSR unbelievably huge, and would butt up against Old Key West (other than a waterway).
Anyway, it's a great article with the history of the Treehouse Villas for anyone curious enough to want to know.
