Ratatouille was the #1 movie at the box office this weekend, with $47.2 million domestically. It is the lowest opening weekend gross of a Pixar movie since A Bugs Life. Still it opened ahead of a stiff competition, Bruce Willis's reincarnation of his Die Hard series.
I think they were smart that, in light of the stellar reviews Ratatouille has been getting (certainly a lot more positive than Cars), they are aiming for a long-term haul, especially this coming week considering the 4th of July holidays.
